🎤 Simple Voice Chat - Setup Guide

Talk to players in real-time with proximity-based voice communication!


⚠️ Important: Client Mod Required!

To use voice chat, you MUST install the mod on your Minecraft client.

📥 Installation Steps

Step 1: Download the Mod

Visit Modrinth and download for your mod loader
Make sure to get version 2.6.6 or newer

Step 2: Install Mod Loader

If you don't have a mod loader:

Step 3: Place in Mods Folder

Copy voicechat-x.x.x.jar to:
%appdata%/.minecraft/mods/ (Windows)
~/.minecraft/mods/ (Linux/Mac)

Step 4: Launch Minecraft

Start Minecraft with your mod loader profile

Step 5: Join Server

Connect to gumdum.com
Voice chat will automatically connect!


⌨️ Controls & Usage

Key Controls:

  • Press V - Open voice chat GUI
  • Hold V (default) - Push-to-talk
  • Voice Activation - Optional, enable in settings

In-Game Usage:

  1. Press V to open the voice chat menu
  2. Click the microphone icon to test your mic
  3. Hold V to talk (or enable voice activation)
  4. Your voice reaches players within 48 blocks!

🔊 Proximity Voice:

  • Normal Range: 48 blocks
  • Whisper Range: 24 blocks (quieter)
  • 3D Audio: Hear players based on their position
  • Distance Fade: Voice gets quieter as you move away

🎨 Voice Indicators

You'll see icons showing who's talking:

  • 🟢 Green microphone - Player is talking (normal)
  • 🟠 Orange microphone - Player is whispering
  • 🔴 Red microphone - You are talking
  • 🟡 Yellow microphone - You are whispering
  • 🔇 Muted icon - Microphone muted
  • 🚫 Disabled icon - Voice chat disabled

  • 🎤 Microphone - Select input device
  • 🔊 Speaker - Select output device
  • 📊 Volume - Adjust levels
  • 🎚️ Amplification - Boost microphone
  • 🔇 Mute - Mute yourself

Server Settings:

  • Port: 24454 UDP (automatically configured)
  • Voice Distance: 48 blocks
  • Whisper Distance: 24 blocks
  • Groups Enabled: Yes
  • Recording Allowed: Yes (with indicator)
  • Codec: Opus (VOIP mode)

FAQ

Q: Do I need the mod to play?
A: No! The mod is optional. You can play without it.

Q: Can Bedrock players use voice chat?
A: No, voice chat requires a client-side mod (Java Edition only).

Q: Why can't anyone hear me?
A: Check Settings (V key) → Select correct microphone → Test it

Q: Why can't I hear anyone?
A: Check Settings (V key) → Select correct speakers → Adjust volume

Q: How do I whisper?

🔧 Troubleshooting

Voice Chat Not Connecting:

  1. Check you have the mod installed
  2. Verify port 24454 UDP is not blocked by firewall
  3. Try /voicechat test
  4. Restart Minecraft

Echo/Feedback:

  • Lower speaker volume
  • Use headphones instead of speakers
  • Adjust microphone sensitivity

Poor Quality:

  • Check internet connection
  • Close bandwidth-heavy applications
  • Try lower quality setting in config

🎯 Best Practices

  • 🎧 Use headphones to prevent echo
  • 🎙️ Position microphone 6-12 inches from mouth
  • 🔇 Mute when not talking
